Generally all credit departments must establish policies for
these issues:
- Types of contact with customers.
- When contact should be made.
- How will customer's past due condition effect current
orders.
- Stages of collection.
- Collection on secured versus unsecured credit
transactions.
- Collection against liens & bonds
- Use of the courts, outside attorneys or collection

- Reserves for bad debt.
An organization must be established to handle all of the
collection requirements.
- Staffing requirements, responsibilities and duties.
